Origins and Principles of Shinbukan Bujutsu
Shinbukan Bujutsu consists of Shinbukan Jujutsu and Shinbukan Kenjutsu. This martial art (system) is developed at the beginning of 1990’s by the yudansha of the Serbian Budo Council (SBC). Creators of Shinbukan Bujutsu were primarily black belt holders and instructors in judo, shotokan karate, aikido, ninjutsu and jujutsu. Therefore, this "sogo budo" is based on combined techniques and principles from several different arts. From 1991 till 1998 this art was known simply as "budo" and it was practiced as a unified (cross training) system within the clubs of SBC.
Name of "Shinbukan Jujutsu" first appeared in 2002, after the name of Shinbukan Dojo in Pozarevac, Serbia. Shinbukan Dojo is the Honbu Dojo of Serbian Budo Council, under guidance of Dr. Ivica Zdravkovic, Menkyo Okuden Shinbukan Bujutsu, 5th Dan in Jujutsu and Kenjutsu in Serbian Budo Council, Bushido Zazen International Society (HQ in Great Britain) and Martial Arts International Federation (HQ in USA).
The three fundamental objectives of Shinbukan Jujutsu are:
- Self defense (to prepare the future instructors and advanced students for live demonstrations, freestyle jujutsu kata competitions and, if necessary, actual self-defense)
-Fighting abilities (to prepare advanced students for karate, judo and jujutsu competitions under rules of JJIF) - Academic knowledge (to produce well educated instructors with wide spectrum of comparative knowledge in
major budo and bujutsu arts)
The three fundamental objectives of Shinbukan Kenjutsu are:
-
Demonstration abilities (including demonstration of Iai kata, advanced technical / tactical principles, cutting and other segments of the art that might be suitable for public displays) - Fighting abilities (fighting under sport
kenjutsu rules of ISCA - with chanbara padded weapons) - Academic knowledge (to produce well educated instructors with wide spectrum of theoretical knowledge in the field of Japanese swordsmanship)
Shinbukan Bujutsu practitioners are active in Serbia, Austria, Czech Republic and Great Britain. Shinbukan Bujutsu uses separate Menkyo licenses for Shinbukan Jujutsu and Shinbukan Kenjutsu. However, one of main requirements for Menkyo Okuden Shinbukan Jujutsu is Menkyo license in Shinbukan Kenjutsu. Therefore, Menkyo Okuden and Menkyo Kaiden Shinbukan Bujutsu include proficiency in both sub-arts.
